Barnes had been searching for a self-portrait of Renoir and believed that the Parisian art dealer Durand-Ruel was holding one for safekeeping. In this letter, Barnes writes to the Paris office of Durand-Ruel in hopes of having them persuade Renoir to part with the painting.
